New Zealand's first national park, Tongariro National Park, was founded in 1887 and is recognised as one of the 27 World Heritage Sites that are of both outstanding natural and cultural value. Gifted to the Crown by Te Heuheu Tūkino IV, the park includes several sacred Māori sites and three active volcanoes, Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe and Tongariro.The coin was issued in the usual square plastic Jewel Case. (35,000 Copies)
It was also included in the annual 7 coin Uncirculated Mint Set. (18,000 Copies)
