This coin was introduced in 1967 to commemorate the introduction of Decimal Currency in New Zealand. It was issued in a number of ways...As part of the Ordinary Uncirculated Year Set with a pink label (250,000 Copies)
As part of the Special Polished Specimen Year Set with a blue label (50,000 Copies)
Individually as an Ordinary Uncirculated coin in a blue square plastic jewel case (200,000 Copies)
The coin was then also released in the following years 1971, 1972, 1973, 1975 & 1976
Those years also saw the coin included in BU Year Sets, Proof Year Sets and BU in square plastic jewel cases.

A coin with the same reverse was also issued in 1979 but it had the George James Berry portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse.
