From 14th June to 15th July 2018 the FIFA World Cup (TM) took place in Russia. To celebrate this event, the British Virgin Islands had approved the release of a new coin which had been produced in conjunction with MDM, Germany.The 2018 FIFA World Cup (TM) was the 21st international tournament for football (soccer) which takes place every four years. This was the first World Cup hosted by a European country for 12 years and the first ever that was held in Eastern Europe. 32 national teams took part in the final tournament – the 31 teams who made it through the qualifying competitions and the team of the host nation who qualified automatically. A total of 64 matches were played during the tournament in 12 venues in various cities across Russia. The final took place on 15th July at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.
