Comment
This coin, issued by Rao Shri Gohadaji II, S/O Lakhpatji, during his reign from AD 1761 - 1778 (VS 1818 - 1835) is modelled after the coins of Sultan Mahmud Shah bin Latif Shah (AD 1536 – 1554) of Gujarat Sultanate (India - Islamic), a practice found to be followed by his predecessors and successors as well.1 Dokdo issued by his predecessors, Khengarji II (Br#12/ DR#48.1), Pragmalji I (KM#39) and Desalji I (KM#49) and his successor, Raydhanji II (C#26) listed in Numista appear identical to this coin except for the name of the respective ruler on the reverse.
Interesting fact
The 1 Dokdo coin from the Princely state of Kutch was minted during the reign of Gohadaji II, who was a powerful ruler known for his military campaigns and administrative reforms. The coin features an interesting blend of traditional Indian and Islamic motifs, reflecting the cultural diversity of the region. On one side, it depicts a stylized lotus flower, which is a common motif in Indian art and architecture, while on the other side, it features a crescent moon and star, which are symbols of Islam.
