The Taifa of Zaragoza, where this coin was minted, was a medieval Islamic kingdom that existed from 1013 to 1046 in the area now known as Aragon, Spain. It was one of the many taifas that emerged after the collapse of the Caliphate of Córdoba. The ruler of the Taifa of Zaragoza, Al-Musta'in I Abu Ayyub Sulayman ibn Hud, who minted this coin, was known for his military campaigns against the Christian kingdoms to the north and his efforts to maintain the independence of his kingdom.
