Comment

The majority of these coins have been found around the Taman Peninsula, and are said to have been struck from the late-3rd to early-4th centuries by the early Goths who occupied the area.

Interesting fact

The Gothic denarius, which was minted by the Goths during their reign in Crimea (modern-day Ukraine), features a unique blend of Roman and Gothic influences in its design. The obverse (front) side of the coin bears the image of a circle with a cross inside, while the reverse (back) side features a circle with a X inside. This combination of symbols reflects the cultural exchange and syncretism that occurred between the Goths and the Romans during this period. The use of copper as the material for the coin also highlights the importance of this resource in the region's economy.
