The standard weight of these coins was 10/11 troy ounce (436.4 grains). This is the first time we see Pistrucci's iconic portrait of St George slaying the dragon, shortly after he beat William Wyon to become the new chief engraver at the Royal Mint.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the 1818-1820 George III Silver Crown is that it was minted during a time of economic uncertainty in the United Kingdom. The country was facing a severe economic downturn, and the government was forced to introduce a new coinage system to address the issue. The Silver Crown was part of this new system, and it was designed to be a more affordable alternative to the gold sovereign, which was the standard unit of currency at the time. Despite the economic challenges, the Silver Crown remained a popular coin among the public and was widely used in circulation.
