Interesting fact
The 1998 Gibraltar 1 Crown coin featuring Neanderthal Man is unique in that it depicts a reconstruction of a Neanderthal man's head on the obverse (front) side of the coin, rather than the traditional portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. This design choice was made to commemorate the discovery of Neanderthal remains in Gibraltar in 1848.
