This series of coins from Gibraltar was issued to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Coronation of H.M. Queen Elizabeth II. A truly historic issue, avaliable in colour presentation box, it was termed the "Crown if Crowns" series.Queen Elizabeth II is twelfth British Monarch to have reigned over Gibraltar, since the Treaty of Utrecht of 1713, by which the sovereignty over the "Rock" was ceded to the Crown of Britain. Therefor it's appropriate tohat the 12 coins in this series should depict each of the British Monarchs to have reigned over Gibraltar, including H.M. Queen Elizabeth II.
The coins were issued in Cupro Nickel, Sterling Silver and 1/5 and 1/10 Fine Gold (also 1 gram Fine Gold for Queen Elizabeth II and 1/2 oz Fine 999 Silver for Edward VIII).
Interesting fact
The 1993 Gibraltar 1 Crown coin featuring King William IV is interesting because it was issued as a non-circulating coin, meaning it was not meant to be used as regular currency, but rather as a collector's item. Despite this, it still holds a unique place in numismatic history as a commemorative coin honoring a lesser-known British monarch.
