Comment

King George VI was born at Sandring ham on 14th of December 1895 and after a full naval training, he ascended to the throne after his father, King George V, died and his brother abdicated. From the very outbreak of war, the King played a major role in steadying the nerves of the British people, never appearing in public out of uniform and even during the heaviest bombing on London, King George VI and H.M. Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother remained steadfastly at Buckingham Palace. At the height of the blitz, the King devised a special decoration, the George Cross, to reward the gallantry of the civilian population. The latter part of the war found the King boosting the forces' morale in the Mediterranean and North Africa, visiting for example Gibraltar and meeting pilots of 202 Squadron based there as well as contributing towards the Anglo-American alliance, culminating in the end of World War II.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a unique design that commemorates the 50th anniversary of the first flight of the Supermarine Spitfire, a British single-seat fighter aircraft that played a significant role in World War II. The coin's design depicts King George VI and a group of pilots standing in front of a Spitfire aircraft, with the Gibraltar coastline in the background. This coin was produced in a limited quantity and is considered a collector's item, making it a valuable addition to any coin collection.
