Comment
The link between the Bounty and the Isle of Man is threefold. William Bligh was married to a native of the island, Fletcher Christian (the subject of the portrait on the reverse) was from a branch of a Manx family, and Peter Heywood, born in the Isle of Man, was a young officer at the time of the mutiny, left in Tahiti, was trialed, condemned and pardoned for his limited participation.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the 1982 Isle of Man 1 Crown - Elizabeth II (H.M.S. Bounty; Gold Proof) coin is that it features a unique design that commemorates the historic voyage of the HMS Bounty, a British Royal Navy ship that was built in 1784 and became famous for its involvement in the mutiny that took place on board in 1789. The coin's design depicts the HMS Bounty in full sail, with the crew on deck, and the island of Pitcairn in the background, where the mutineers eventually settled. The coin's gold content and proof finish add to its value and collectibility, making it a sought-after piece among coin collectors and history enthusiasts.
