The Pobjoy Mint 2006 Exotic Shorthair Cat coins were the 19th issue of the Cat Series. This first started in 1988 with the release of the Manx Cat coins and ended in 2016 with the final issue the Tobacco Brown Cat coins, a period of 28 years.
The Exotic Shorthair Cat was created in the 1950s by crossbreeding Persian Longhair and British Shorthair cats. The breed have a body similar to the Persian short and broad frame. With a characteristic large head, the Exotics have a short nose with a distinctive break and large adorable round eyes. The breed is very responsive to humans and human emotions. Their extremely tame personality and gentle nature are traits inherited from the Persian ancestry.
The 2006 coin was released in cupronickel, silver and gold, struck in brilliant-uncirculated, in colour and in proof. For the proof coins, these coins were encapsulated and presented in a plush red clamshell case with an unnumbered Certificate of Issue.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about this coin is that it features an Exotic Shorthair cat on the reverse side, which is a breed of domestic cat known for its unique appearance and friendly personality. The inclusion of this breed on the coin adds a touch of whimsy and playfulness to an otherwise traditional coin design.
