This coin was initially struck in 2008, but hyperinflation put off their release date until December of 2009, after the Third Won was introduced. Even so, due to the revaluation of the currency, the 1 chon pieces' value was so low it was basically irrelevant.

Interesting fact

The 1 Chon 97 (2008) coin from North Korea made of Aluminium weighing 0.8 g is interesting because it features the portrait of Kim Il-sung, the founder and eternal president of North Korea, on one side, and the coat of arms of North Korea on the other side, which includes a depiction of Mount Paektu, a symbol of the country's revolutionary spirit and strength.
