Interesting fact
This coin was part of a series of trial coins minted in 1889 to test the use of nickel silver as a substitute for silver in French coinage. The nickel silver alloy used in these coins was composed of 60% copper, 20% nickel, and 20% zinc. The use of nickel silver was eventually discontinued due to its tendency to tarnish and corrode, but these trial coins remain an interesting piece of numismatic history.
