Interesting fact
The 1 Centime 1850 coin from Haiti was designed by a Haitian artist named Jean-Baptiste Pointe du Sable, who was also a prominent businessman and philanthropist. He was born in Haiti in 1771 and was of African descent. The coin features a portrait of Haiti's first emperor, Faustin Soulouque, on one side and a depiction of a palm tree and the coat of arms of Haiti on the other. The coin was minted in Paris, France, and was part of a series of coins issued by Haiti during the 19th century to promote trade and commerce.
