Comment

1. Lempira, the present currency of Honduras, was introduced in 1931 replacing the Peso. The Lempira is divided into 100 Centavos.

The currency is named after Lempira, a chieftain of the indigenous Lenca people, who waged war against Spanish occupation of the
country during the 16th century. He is revered as a national hero.

2. Sept. 15, 1821, within the Coat of Arms commemorates the day when 5 Central American countries including Honduras gained
independence from Spanish rule. 15th Sept is celebrated as the National Day of Honduras.

Interesting fact

The 1 Centavo coin from Honduras, produced between 1954 and 1957, has an interesting feature. Despite being made of bronze, a metal alloy, it was designed with a unique combination of metals, specifically 95% copper, 4% zinc, and 1% tin. This blend gives the coin a distinctive color and durability, making it stand out from other coins made of similar materials.
