Drawn from the island's seal.It shows a large oak, symbol of England, over three oak seedlings which are the symbol of the island's three counties. Around it, the Latin sentence "PARVA SUB INGENTI", meaning "The small beneath the great".

Because of the pressure to make coins, the Royal Mint in London arranged for Heaton's Mint in Birmingham to make 1 Cent coins for Prince Edward Island.

 

 For unknown reasons the H mintmark is absent on the coins through an oversight.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the 1871 Victoria 1 Cent coin from Prince Edward Island is that it was the first coin to feature the young Queen Victoria, who was only 18 years old at the time of its production. This coin was also the first to bear the image of a reigning monarch, setting a precedent for future Canadian coinage.
