Interesting fact
The Lincoln Cent - Shield Reverse coin was designed by sculptor Lyndall Bass, who was a former U.S. Mint sculptor-engraver. Bass's design was chosen as the winner of a competition held by the U.S. Mint to redesign the reverse of the Lincoln Cent in 2009. The new design features a Union shield with a scroll above it bearing the motto "E Pluribus Unum," and was intended to symbolize Lincoln's commitment to preserving the Union.
