Comment
First issued in 1859, the IHC was a long running American coin design by James Barton Longacre. This pattern is for the revised 1864 issues and has a modified obverse with a “truncation” (shortening) of the bust and the letter “L” for Longacre. The reverse is unchanged and it has a rarity of 7.
Interesting fact
The Pattern 1 Cent - "Indian Head Cent" (Copper Nickel Pattern) 1863 from United States has a unique feature - it was designed with a distinctive "Indian head" design on the obverse (front) side of the coin, which was created by the U.S. Mint's Chief Engraver, James B. Longacre. This design was intended to symbolize the indigenous peoples of North America and was a departure from the traditional depiction of Lady Liberty on U.S. coins.
