The 1 Cent coin from Canada, featuring Elizabeth II's 4th portrait and made of copper-plated zinc, was the first coin in the world to use a non-magnetic metal for its composition. This was done to prevent the coin from being mistakenly sorted out by magnetic coin-sorting machines, which were becoming increasingly common in use at the time.
