During excavations in the 19th century, 5 stearite statues were discovered in the ruins of the "Great Zimbabwe" monument and taken to South Africa by Cecil Rhodes. It was Rhodes who gave his name to Rhodesia, which later became Zimbabwe. Since then, 4 have been returned to the country.Interesting fact
The 1 Cent coin from Zimbabwe was designed by the famous sculptor and coin designer, Ian Rank-Broadley. He is known for designing many coins for different countries, and his work is highly regarded in the numismatic community. The coin's design features a portrait of the first president of Zimbabwe, Canaan Banana, on the obverse, and a representation of a farmer and a worker on the reverse. The coin's unique design and historical significance make it a popular collector's item among numismatists.
