- Uthram Thirunal Marthanda Varma (26 September 1814 – 18 August 1860) was the Maharajah of Travancore state in southern India, succeeding his elder brother Maharajah Swathi Thirunal in 1846 till his demise in 1860. Known for his progressive rule, he abolished slavery in the kingdom. He was succeeded by his nephew Maharajah Ayilyam Thirunal in 1860.- 1 cash copper coins were issued by the proclamation of 1024 ME (1849 AD). Copper coins in this design, with SriKrishna and Sudarshan Chakra were issued in the denominations of eight cash, four cash, two cash and one cash

- Over the years, the design of the 1 cash coin changed across various rulers thus many varieties exist (click image below). The initial form of the design is KM 16 which was issued during the time of Uthram Thirunal Marthanda Varma II in 1849 AD and it degenerated into KM 34, a stick figure by the time of Moolam Thirunal Rama Varma in 1885 AD.
Locally these type of coins were called ‘Bomma (puppet) cash’
