Comment

At least two of these pieces have been reported on Zeno, with one being found in Shimkent, South Kazakhstan. This coin was possibly meant for some place in Semirechye; however, the style is quite strange. It could be a local imitation of a Türgesh coin.

If this piece is imitating a Türgesh coin, its earliest date would be 716. Because Sogdian coins tend to be made within the 8th century at latest, an end date after 801 would be unlikely.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about this coin is that it was minted during the reign of the Tang Dynasty in China, which was a time of significant cultural and economic exchange along the Silk Road. The Sogdian mint where the coin was produced was likely located in modern-day Uzbekistan or Kazakhstan, and the coin's design and inscriptions reflect the blending of Chinese and Sogdian cultures. The coin's weight and composition, made of bronze and weighing 3.80 grams, also provide insight into the coinage system and monetary policies of the time.
