While Taichang ruled for only one month, out of pity, the succeeding emperor continued to posthumously mint his coins during the first year of his range.Interesting fact
The 1 Cash coin from the Empire of China, which was minted during the Taichang era (1620) and features the Tongbao (with dot) inscription, was made of brass. Brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, was a common material used for coins during this time period, as it was durable and had a lower cost than other metals. However, the use of brass for coins also had its drawbacks, as it was prone to corrosion and wore down quickly with use. Despite these limitations, the 1 Cash coin remained a widely used denomination in China for many centuries and is still sought after by collectors today.
