This type was used as a presentation piece and was not meant for general circulation.Interesting fact
The ½ Tiền coin was minted during the reign of Emperor Thiệu Trị, who ruled Vietnam from 1841 to 1847. During his reign, the country was facing significant economic challenges, including inflation and a lack of silver, which was the main currency at the time. To address these issues, Thiệu Trị introduced a new currency system that included the ½ Tiền coin, which was made of silver and had a value equivalent to half of a standard Tiền coin. This coin was an attempt to stabilize the economy and address the shortage of silver, and it remains an interesting piece of Vietnamese history.
