Interesting fact
The ¼ Tanga coin from Portuguese India, featuring Luíz I, was the first coin to be issued with a portrait of a Portuguese king on one side and the coat of arms of Portugal on the other. This design was a departure from the previous coins issued by the Portuguese East India Company, which had featured the company's emblem on one side and the name of the king on the other. The introduction of the new design was a sign of the increasing influence of the Portuguese crown over the colonies in India.
