Comment

The fineness of the 1348 dated coins produced by the Royal Mint is recorded as .830 in the Royal Mint Annual Report for 1930
(see pages 29 and 150). The coins dated 1346 were produced by The Mint, Birmingham (see the 1927 and 1928 reports) but the fineness is not recorded. The Standard Catalog of World Coins gives the composition for both dates as .917 silver.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about this coin is that it was minted during a time of great change and modernization in Saudi Arabia. The coin was issued during the reign of King Abd al-Aziz (also known as Ibn Saud), who ruled from 1926 to 1953 and is considered the founder of modern Saudi Arabia. During his reign, the country underwent significant modernization and development, including the establishment of a new government, the expansion of education and healthcare, and the development of infrastructure such as roads, telecommunications, and oil fields. The coin's mintage period, 1928-1930, falls within this time of rapid change and growth, making it a unique piece of history from a pivotal moment in Saudi Arabia's development.
