Interesting fact
The ½ Real coin from Honduras, issued between 1844 and 1845, has an interesting feature. Despite being made of Billon, which is an alloy of silver and copper, the coin has a unique silver-plating process that gives it a distinctive appearance. This process, known as "sand-dollar plating," involves coating the coin with a thin layer of pure silver using a technique similar to electroplating. This resulted in a coin that has a silver-like appearance but still maintains the durability and resistance of the Billon alloy. This feature makes the ½ Real coin stand out from other coins of its time and adds to its numismatic appeal.
