Monogramed name of King Ferdinand VI. (Ferdinandvs VI) with date below. Mint mark left, assayer right. Circled with standard round dotted border.
The legend, rarely visible on 1/2 reales, can vary greatly as to how it is written and what side it may appear on either side of the coin as:
When visible, it would be a varient of:
FERNANDVS VI.DG. REX. YNDIARVM - LIMA .ANO. 1747 -
And may be rendered in shorter abbreviations and variations that fit the small die set.
Scarcer issues. Last type of 1/2 real cob issued from Lima Mint, 1747-1752.
Assayers: "V" Jose de Vargas y Flor 1747-1749
"R" Jose Rodriguez de Carassa 1749-1752
1749 "V" is very rare.
Distinctly different monogram type than Potosi, thus confused between the two types should be easy. Potosi's monogram is simply rendered as FDI (with leg at base of F, and V inside the D, with as S often over the monogram in large bold lettering) vs jumbled Lima monogram that appears as R\DS, or F\DS in smaller lettering.
Lettering: FERNANDVS VI.DG. REX. YNDIARVM - LIMA .ANO. 1747
Translation:
Ferdinand VI King of Spain and the Indies, by the grace of god.
Lima. Year. 1747.
Comment
Issues of 1750, are commonly muled with one or more of the various dies.1750 (1/2R) with 1 Escudo reverse die. Showing a castle flanked by L-R and date 750 below instead of the typical monogram.
1750, 1 Real obverse die (see image) which will show the cross inside four tressures, with denomination 1 above, L-R flanking and date below. 1750, 2 reales obverse die. With cross inside four tressures, 2 at top, L-R flanking and date below.
Issues with the 1 and 2 reales obverse (cross side) dies rarely show the entirety of the cross, denomination etc as the dies are much larger than the planchets used.
Issues of the 1750 half real with the correct dies are scarce. But show, cross inside a border of round pellets, with crown at top and legend around.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the ½ Real - Ferdinand VI (Monogram) 1747-1751 coin from Peru is that it was minted during a time of great change in the region. The coin was issued during the reign of King Ferdinand VI of Spain, who ruled from 1746 to 1751. During his reign, the Spanish Empire was facing challenges from European powers and indigenous uprisings in the Americas. Despite these challenges, the coin still maintains a high level of craftsmanship and beauty, showcasing the rich history and culture of Peru during that time.
