Comment

These coins were officially demonetized by the Guatemalan government in 1873. Individuals only had three days in which to redeem cob coinage for current coinage or promissory notes. Colonial era coinage in El Salvador was also redeemed.

Interesting fact

The ½ Real coin from Guatemala, minted during the reign of Charles III (1760-1771), is interesting because it was made of silver (.917) and weighed 1.6917 grams, which was a relatively small weight for a coin at that time. This coin was also part of a larger series of coins minted during Charles III's reign, which included denominations ranging from 1/8 real to 8 reales, demonstrating the diverse range of coinage used in Guatemala during the 18th century.
