Comment

The decimal value of this coin was about 3 Cents (3.125 cents exactly). It was apparently struck in response to the continuing use of the Reales monetary system in rural areas.

Interesting fact

The 1909 ¼ Real coin from El Salvador was part of a series of coins issued during the country's transition from a silver-based currency to a gold-based currency. The coin was made of bronze and had a unique design, featuring a portrait of a woman representing liberty on one side and the national coat of arms on the other. This coin was also the first coin to be issued with the denominations expressed in decimal form, rather than in reales, which was the traditional unit of currency in El Salvador at the time.
