Interesting fact
The ½ Quarto coin was minted during a time of political turmoil in Spain, when the country was occupied by Napoleon's forces. The Principality of Catalonia, where the coin was minted, was a region that strongly opposed French rule and fought for independence. As a result, the coin features a unique design that reflects the region's desire for self-governance. The obverse side of the coin features the coat of arms of Catalonia, while the reverse side features a crowned shield with the motto "LIBERTAD Y CONSTITUCION" (Liberty and Constitution) written above it. This design was a bold statement of resistance against French rule and a declaration of support for the principles of liberty and democracy.
