Interesting fact
The 1935-1936 Syrian ½ Qirsh / Piastre coin was designed by the French sculptor and engraver, Paul-Albert Bartholomé. Bartholomé was a renowned artist who also designed coins for other countries, including France, Belgium, and Greece. The coin's design features a portrait of a young woman wearing a traditional Syrian headdress on one side, and an image of a palm tree on the other. The coin's nickel brass composition and 4g weight were also unique for coins of its time.
