Interesting fact
The ½ Pesewa coin was introduced in 1967 as a replacement for the 1/2 Penny coin, which was previously used in Ghana. The coin was designed to reduce the cost of producing the coin, as the 1/2 Penny coin was made of bronze, which was more expensive than the bronze alloy used in the ½ Pesewa coin. The ½ Pesewa coin was also introduced to simplify the currency system in Ghana, as it was easier to divide the 1 Cedi note into two equal parts, rather than having to use the 1/2 Penny coin.
