Comment
Admiral Horatio Lord Nelson (1758-1805) can be argued to be the most inspiring leader the British Navy has ever had. Having lost the sight in his right eye at the Battle of Calvi in Corsica, 1794 and his right arm at Santa Cruz in Tenerife, 1797, it was at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805 that Nelson sent his famous signal depicted on the obverse of this token and was mortally wounded as he paced the deck of his flagship Victory in full dress uniform with medals. A statue of Nelson stands atop a 52m column in Trafalgar Square, London.Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the Token ½ Penny (Yorkshire - Sheffield / Horatio Nelson) 1811 from United Kingdom is that it was issued during a time when there was a severe shortage of small denomination coins in circulation, leading to the use of private tokens like this one as a substitute for official currency.
