Comment

'A very collectable 18th Century 1796 Middlesex Halfpenny Token'.
'Very rare Political and Social Series (Buck's Society) London (Middlesex) copper Conder halfpenny token dated 1796'. It is thought that these were possibly struck for the use of the “Buck Society” in London.
 Catalogues: (Conder p.91, 179; Pye p.35, 8; Virt p.89; Atkins p.141, 750; D&H Middlesex 1041).
Peter Kempson - manufacturer; issuer.
Maybe made for the Lutwyches Buck Society.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the Token ½ Penny (Middlesex - Freedom with innocence) 1796 from United Kingdom is that it was issued during a time of economic crisis, specifically the 1797 currency crisis, which was caused by the shortage of silver coins and the abundance of counterfeit coins in circulation. The Token ½ Penny was made of copper and had a low denomination, making it an affordable option for everyday transactions. Additionally, the coin's design features an image of a woman representing Freedom, which was a symbol of hope and liberty during a time of political and economic uncertainty.
