Interesting fact

This coin was issued during a time when there was a shortage of official currency in circulation, and private tokens like this one were used as a substitute. The Token ½ Penny was issued by John of Gaunt, the Duke of Lancaster, and features an image of a shield with three fleur-de-lis on one side and a crowned rose on the other. It was made of copper and weighs 10.7 grams. Despite being issued over 200 years ago, some of these coins are still in circulation among collectors today!
