Comment
In a departure from the Britannia design which had adorned halfpennies since the copper issues of Charles II, the ship featured on the reverse is based on Sir Francis Drake's Golden Hind, in which he became the first Englishman to circumnavigate the globe between 1577 and 1580.Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the Pattern ½ Penny - Edward VIII (Pattern) 1937 from United Kingdom is that it was designed by sculptor and engraver, Edgar Bertram MacKennal. MacKennal's design features a portrait of King Edward VIII, who abdicated before the coin was released into circulation, making it a rare and unique piece of numismatic history.
