Comment

Anderson, Leslie & Co., were seedsmen, nurserymen and florists in Edinburgh, hence the reverse design of a gardener at work.
The building represented is Edinburgh University's 'Old College'. Designed by Robert Adam, the building was begun in 1789 and completed in 1818-1834. Today this building is the administrative centre of the university as well as holding the Faculty of Law.
It was manufactured by Kempson. The die-sinker was Wyon.
The quote "Neu segnes jaceant terrae" is from Virgil.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the Token ½ Penny (Edinburgh - Anderson and Leslie's) 1797 from United Kingdom is that it was issued during a time of severe coinage shortages in Scotland, particularly in the city of Edinburgh. The coin was minted by a private company, Anderson and Leslie's, and was intended to serve as a substitute for the official British halfpenny coin. The coin's design features a crowned shield with the initials "A" and "L" on either side, and the reverse side bears the inscription "Half Penny" within a wreath. Despite its unofficial status, the coin was widely accepted and circulated in Edinburgh and surrounding areas, and it remains a sought-after collector's item among numismatists today.
