Interesting fact
The Krugerrand was first introduced in 1967 and was the first gold coin to be minted in a one-ounce denomination. It was created as a way to market South African gold and to promote the country's gold mining industry. The coin was named after President Paul Kruger, who was the president of the South African Republic from 1883 to 1900. The Krugerrand was a huge success and became one of the most popular gold coins in the world. In 1980, the South African Mint introduced smaller denominations of the Krugerrand, including the ¼ ounce coin. Today, the Krugerrand is still minted and is considered a popular collector's item and investment vehicle.
