Couplet "If there is an Imam from east to west, 'Ali and his family sufficeth for us" replaces the kalima and names of the 12 Imams on the reverse, unique to this short-lived ruler for the Safavid dynasty (reference to the Imam 'Ali b. Abi Talib). Very few gold coins of Isma'il II are known, and in addition to this piece, known of only one from Isfahan and two from Simnan, all of the half mithqal denomination.Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the ½ Mithqal - Ismail II Safavi 984 (1577) coin from Iran is that it features a unique blend of Islamic and Persian designs on its obverse and reverse sides. The obverse side features the name of the ruler, Ismail II, in Arabic script, while the reverse side features a stylized representation of a lion, which is a symbol of power and strength in Persian culture. This blend of designs reflects the cultural and religious influences of the Safavid dynasty, which ruled Iran from the 16th to the 18th century.
