Comment
Farouk I was the King of Egypt from AH1355-1372 (1936-1952AD), being the successor to his father, Fuad I of Egypt. Farouk took the throne at age 16 being born on the February of 1920, and was an avid coin collector. His regime was overthrown in July, 1952 by soon-to-be president Gamal Abdel Nasser and the Free Officers, and was forced to abdicate, being succeeded by his son, Fuad II. In 1953, Egypt became a republic, terminating rule by royal lineage, and in 1954, Farouk's collection, which contained an estimated 8,500 United States gold coins, was liquidated and proceeds were given back to the national treasury. Some parts of his collection still circulate the market today.Interesting fact
