The 1926 ½ Lek coin was the first coin to feature the image of the Albanian national hero, Skanderbeg, on its obverse side. Skanderbeg was a 15th-century Albanian prince who led a rebellion against the Ottoman Empire and is considered a symbol of Albanian national identity. The inclusion of his image on the coin was a significant move towards promoting Albanian nationalism and independence.
