The ½ Kreuzer coin was minted during a time of great economic and political change in the German States. The coinage of the time was based on the Reichsmünzfuß, a standardized system of coinage that was introduced in 1559 and remained in use until the early 19th century. The ½ Kreuzer coin was a subdivision of the Kreuzer, which was equal to 4 Pfennig or 1/60 of a Gulden. Despite its small denomination, the ½ Kreuzer coin played an important role in everyday transactions and was widely used throughout the German States.
