The ¼ Gulden coin from Curaçao (Netherlands Antilles) was minted in 1838 and features a unique countermark, known as C8, which was applied to the coin to indicate its authenticity. This countermark is a small letter "C" surrounded by a wreath, and it can be found on the reverse side of the coin, just below the shield. The use of countermarks was a common practice in the 19th century to prevent counterfeiting, and it adds an interesting element to the coin's design and history.
