Interesting fact

The ½ Grote coin from the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg, minted between 1853 and 1856, features an interesting design element. The obverse side of the coin bears the image of Grand Duke Peter II, while the reverse side features a crowned shield with the Oldenburg coat of arms, surrounded by a wreath of oak leaves. This design was a departure from the previous coinage of the Grand Duchy, which had featured a more traditional depiction of the Grand Duke on both sides of the coin. The use of a shield with the coat of arms on the reverse side was a nod to the growing nationalism and patriotism in Germany during the mid-19th century.
