Comment

Like all the coins issued under Philippe le Beau, this quarter gros was struck in the Luxembourg City mint. Very rare piece.

No known legend or punctuation variants. However a smaller coin exists. The approximate diameter is 15 mm for a weight of about 0.6 g.

ERRATA:
• The Bernays & Vannerus reference was used for this sheet but it is incorrect and was corrected by Van Gelder and Hoc in 1960.
• Probst wrongly describes the shield as being Luxemburgish. Until proven otherwise, this shield seems still to be of Flanders.
• Bernays & Vannerus note a weight of 1.05 g. This value seems exaggerated, the maximum weight measured by Weiller was 0.78 g. (minimum weight: 0.5 g.)

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the ¼ Gros - Philippe I the Handsome 1502 coin from Duchy of Luxembourg (Luxembourg) is that it features a unique design that showcases the coat of arms of Luxembourg, which includes a lion and a cross, symbolizing the country's history and cultural heritage.
