Comment
Depictions of the king as a knight are rare on coins. This small gold coin (known as the "pièce de plaisir"), issued in 1515 at the height of the conquest of Milan, is a case in point. The armed king is on horseback, in the tradition of the "cavaliers d'or" and "Francs à cheval" of the late Middle Ages. It is not certain whether this coin was ever used. It may have served as a diplomatic gift.

Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the ½ Gold Royal - Francis I ND (1515) coin from France is that it features a unique design element - a small shield with the letter "F" in the center, which represents the king's initial. This shield is placed above the coat of arms of France, adding an extra layer of detail and symbolism to the coin's design.
