Comment

The denomination written on coin 5 equal 1/32 gulden means 1/160 gulden. However, in 1802 the rate of exchange was set so that 6 duits should equal 1/16 gulden which means the 1/2 duit equaled 1/192 gulden, but because of the perennial shortage of small coins, the error was ignored and the coins released to circulation. (Adopted from the Standard Catalog of World Coins).

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the ½ Duit (Batavia) coin from Indonesia › Netherlands East Indies (1601-1949) is that it was minted during a time of significant economic and political change in the region. The coin was introduced in 1802, just a few years after the Dutch East India Company had gone bankrupt and the Dutch government had taken over the administration of the East Indies. The coin was made of copper and weighed 2 grams, making it a relatively small and lightweight coin. Despite its small size, the ½ Duit coin played an important role in the economy of the time, as it was widely used for everyday transactions and was a key part of the currency system in use during that period.
