Comment
The Coinage Act of 12 February, 1873, increased the standard weight of quarters from 96 grains (6.22 grams, KM# 92) to a metric standard of 6¼ grams (96.45 grains). The arrows were added to signify this change.Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the 1873-1874 Seated Liberty Quarter is that it was the first coin to feature the motto "In God We Trust" on its obverse (front side). This motto was added to the coin in response to increased religious sentiment and pressure from religious groups during the Civil War era. The inclusion of the motto on the coin was seen as a way to express the country's commitment to religious faith and to inspire confidence in the currency during a time of economic uncertainty.
